Dial Before You Dig

Indiana_811_logo_200x100Knox officials remind residents to call 811 before beginning any digging projects. If you are planning a home improvement job, planting trees, installing a fence, deck or mailbox, it is the law that you call 811 at least two days before work begins. The depth of utility lines varies, and there may be multiple lines in common areas of your property. Digging without calling can disrupt service to an entire neighborhood and potentially result in fines. You may also have to pay for repairs should you strike a buried cable or line. If you hire a contractor, confirm that the 811 call has been made. Don’t allow work to begin if the lines aren’t marked. In addition to calling 811, Knox residents are also asked to contact the city at 574-772-3032 to locate water and sewer lines before doing any digging.
