The Starke County Council moved $50,000 into the rainy day fund to close the books on 2014 and approved a handful of transfers to balance the books. They included $4,585 within the Starke County EMS budget to pay for a furnace repair at the North Judson base and nearly $47,000 to clean up the commissioners budget. Council President Dave Pearman notes department heads and county officials do a good job of budgeting and spending money wisely, so very few transfers are needed.
The council also clarified recent expenditures from the DARE Fund by the Starke County Sheriff’s Department were made in accordance with State Board of Accounts guidelines. Had money in the fund not been spent on uniforms and other supplies and equipment for the sheriffs department it would have gone back into the county general fund.
