Between Thanksgiving and New Years day, the average household produces about 25 percent more waste than normal. The Indiana Department of Environmental Health has a few tips to help reduce the amount of waste created this holiday season. The best way to cut down on the garbage generated is through what’s known as “pre-cycling.” This a process where you assess whether a product can be recycled prior to making a purchase.
When it comes to wrapping paper and greeting cards, these products are most often recyclable. Garland and strands of lights are not recyclable and should be donated or disposed of in the regular trash.
Avoid overflowing landfills with refuse that could be recycled, be conscious of what you throw out this holiday season.
