Marshall County Commissioners Get Update on Pug Mill Purchase

The Marshall County Highway Department discussed pug mill quotes with the commissioners this week.

The highway department would need to commit 10 percent for a down payment for a pug mill. The down payment would be $28,500. Supervisor of County Highways Jason Peters will be going to look and test the equipment soon.

Peters told the commissioners in a previous meeting that they had used the pug mill Starke County as part of an agreement to help the county save money in paving roads. The highway department uses the pug mill to patch roads with a mixture of stone, oil and sand. Peters said the mixture saves the county thousands of dollars compared to applying a hot asphalt mix.

The pug mill would also be able to assist the workers during the winter season as the equipment is capable of mixing calcium chloride or a different boost with the sand to help clear snow and ice from the roads.
