Several abandoned buildings and houses in Hamlet are under consideration by the Town Board as “unsafe structures.” After proper legal procedures, action can be taken to tear the buildings down.
The Board also heard a police report detailing an “unsafe situation” in a park shelter. Reports show that youngsters are climbing into the rafters of the building. The Board ordered that a ceiling be put in place. That measure should also limit grafiti on the rafters in the building, which has also become a problem.
A dispute between residents over an easement used as an alleyway in the downtown area and the placement of a dumpster was resolved between the parties after a 45-minute lively discussion by the zoning board and several citizens.
