The record June rainfall kept the Starke County Highway Department busy. As of Wednesday, all Starke County roads are open. The county highway department does plan to build up for low areas that chronically flood.
They are:
900 East just north of 625 South
1200 East just east of 500 North
700 South just east of 1100 East
200 West just north of 800 South
Last month drivers cleared 45 trees toppled by wind and rain. They also replaced seven culverts and used more than 500 tons of patch to repair water damage in the roadways. Highway department officials say drivers also cleared drains and culverts, dug drainage ditches and made shoulder repairs.
As weather allowed crews were able to get some mowing and crack sealing work done. Paving operations resumed in late June and should be done next month. Crack sealing is continuing as well.
