Culver Man Sentenced in Reckless Homicide Case

A Culver man was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to a charge of Reckless Homicide.

54-year-old Jon McFarland was charged following a Grand Jury indictment from December of 2014. It alleges that on October 12th of that year, McFarland was a driver in an automobile crash that occurred at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 10 near Argos.

Information released by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office indicates that McFarland failed to yield the right of way to other vehicles on the road, eventually striking the side of the vehicle. The force of the impact pushed the victim’s car into a semi-trailer, killing a passenger in the vehicle on impact.

McFarland was given 60 days at the Marshall County Jail with 305 days of home detention supervised by Marshall County Community Corrections.
