Knox VFW Hosts Auto Show Fundraiser

The Knox VFW Men’s Auxiliary and the VFW Rider’s Club are teaming up for a special fundraiser this weekend.

The Old Auto Show-Off for the Veterans will give residents the chance to display their vintage cars, bikes, semis, or tractors Saturday at the Knox VFW Post 748. Additionally, the VFW Rider’s Club will be having a bike ride.

Men’s Auxiliary president Steve Berndt says the events will raise money for some good causes, “The VFW Riders association – they’re raising money for the K-9 unit for the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, which is a much-needed thing; and then also, the Men’s Auxiliary from the VFW – we are putting that money towards the K-9 unit and also some of it towards the scholarship fund that we have for all three school systems here.”

He says the scholarship fund aims to help Starke County students where they need it most, “The scholarship fund was started a few years back. The Men’s Auxiliary started that scholarship program for each school, and it has really done good, so we’ve increased the scholarship amount for each child. And the child has to fill out with their guidance counselor the form that we have for each school corporation. It’ll benefit them, it’ll help them, and we try to help them out in a gas card or if they want us to pay for their books or something like that.”

The Old Auto Show-Off is Saturday, with registration starting at 9:00 a.m. followed by judging at 3:00 p.m. They’ll have pork chop sandwiches for sale from noon to 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the VFW Rider’s Club bike ride will be from noon until 2:00 p.m.
