Culver Schools Superintendent Vicki McGuire is is resigning from the position to take over as superintendent at a school corporation in Central Indiana. The Eastern Hancock school corporation has announced that McGuire will be its new superintendent starting January 1, after she signs a three-and-a-half-year contract with the corporation Monday morning.
That evening, the Culver School Board will have its own steps to take. Board members will decide whether to formally accept McGuire’s resignation and appoint current Director of Operations Chuck Kitchell as interim superintendent. Culver School Board President Ken VanDePutte says if those items are approved, McGuire’s resignation will take effect at the time of the meeting, while Kitchell’s appointment would take effect the following day.
VanDePutte says the transition should be smooth, since the director of operations position was basically an assistant to the superintendent, “This was her first job as a superintendent, so he was there to provide support to her. He has very good knowledge of all three of our schools here, so he is obviously the prime candidate for that.”
The school board president also expressed the board’s appreciation for McGuire’s two years as superintendent, “We just want to wish Dr. McGuire the best on her new position and thank her for the accomplishments that she’s made here at Culver Community School Corporation.”
According to VanDePutte, McGuire cited personal reasons for her decision to leave Culver for a new job. Attempts to reach McGuire for comment Wednesday were unsuccessful.
Her resignation comes just after the North Judson-San Pierre and Oregon-Davis school corporations have hired interim superintendents of their own following resignations. Additionally, Knox Community Schools Superintendent A.J. Gappa was notified earlier this year that his contract will not be renewed.
The Culver School Board will meet at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Culver School Administration Building.
