Starke County Candidate Filings Pick Up

Candidate filing is picking up in Starke County. Several county-wide seats are up for grabs this year. Incumbent Councilmen Freddie Baker, Bryan Cavender and Bob Sims are all running for reelection.

As of Friday, only one candidate has filed for the County Commissioner District 1 seat currently held by Republican Kathy Norem. Democrat Pete J. “Buddy” Ringle, Jr. is seeking that seat. Prospective candidates must live in North Bend, Oregon or Washington Township.

The District 3 commissioner seat has drawn the most interest so far. It’s currently held by Republican Kent Danford. As of Friday, Democrats Anthony R. Bailey and Karen L. Tibbs and Republican Charles Chesak have filed. Prospective candidates must live in Jackson, Railroad or Wayne Township.

The filing deadline is Friday, Feb. 5 at noon.

Previous filings include Surveyor Bill Crase, Jr. and Treasurer Kasey Clark. Both are Democrats.
