The City of Knox is cracking down on building code violations. Inspector Bruce Williams sent 19 code enforcement letters in February. Mayor Dennis Estok told the board of works last week the goal is to either bring blighted houses up to code through enforcement or tear them down.
Williams told the board of works he was also prepared to execute one inspection warrant. Doing so required a judge’s signature to allow city officials to enter a property they have good reason to suspect is in violation of the city’s building codes.
Estok notes this is the first time the inspection warrant process has been used. He says strict enforcement is the only way to clean things up and stresses he hopes people will cooperate.
