The Town of Winamac is exploring its options when it comes to the removal of ash trees from the Town Park. One option proposed to the town council this week by Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo was to drop the trees and then allow the public to cut them up and remove the wood in exchange for a fee. This is similar to the method used at the Tippecanoe River State Park last month.
However, some members of the council expressed concerns with the liability issues with such a plan and discussed the matter with Town Attorney Justin Schramm. The council then recommended soliciting quotes for the removal of the trees, instead. They also discussed the possibility of having several contractors do the work, to speed up the process and make sure the hazardous trees are gone before the start of summer events in the park.
