The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is reporting its first successful use of the opioid antidote Narcan Saturday. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a gas station at State Road 39 and U.S. 20 shortly after noon, after getting a report of a person not breathing.
After CPR and a dose of Narcan, officers say the victim’s heart began beating on its own and breathing was restored. Members of the Springfield Township Fire Department and LaPorte County EMS arrived and took the victim to LaPorte Hospital.
In a Sheriff’s Office news release, Sheriff John Boyd praised the deputies for taking quick medical action, and said the Narcan may very well have saved a life.
The Sheriff’s Office says it did find evidence of narcotics use at the scene, and a criminal investigation is taking place. The name and medical condition of the victim have not been released.
