Downtown Knox will be a hub of activity today. The Masonic Lodge is hosting a pancake breakfast this morning, followed by a rummage sale from 10 a.m. until dusk a their lodge at 208 N. Main Street across from the entrance to Wythogan Park. Proceeds from both events will benefit the Knox Lodge Masonic Miracles Fund.
A couple of businesses are also celebrating their grand openings today. Tammy’s Nail Salon is opening at 2 North Pearl Street, and will be hosting an open house from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. No services will be offered today, but gift certificates will be given to the first 100 people who stop by. Prize drawings will also be held, and there’s no purchase necessary to enter.
Stop next door for the grand opening of Poppin’ Off Popcorn. The gourmet popcorn shop offers a variety of sweet and savory popcorn flavors. Both businesses are located across from the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in downtown Knox.
The City of Knox is hosting a Fun Day in the Park leading up to this evening’s fireworks display. Festivities will get under way at 1 p.m. with a parade down Main Street from Knox High School into downtown. Gates at Wythogan Park open at 2, and activities start at 3 p.m. Parking inside the park is $10, or shuttles are available from the courthouse area for a free-will donation.
Scheduled Fun Day in the Park activities include corn hole and horseshoe tournaments, the Yellow River Duck Race, burnout and hot dog eating contests.
The Carlos Ramos Classic Rock Band will perform from 7 until 11 p.m., with a break around 9 for the fireworks.
City officials recently did some tests to check visibility and note the display can be seen from outside the park at various spots around the city.
