The Medaryville Town Council is updating the definition of the word trash.
A recent case in the Pulaski County courts led the town government to consider amending some of the language to be more specific. During a special session held Friday afternoon, Town Council members considered an amendment to what Board President Bob Schultz says is their trash ordinance.
“We changed the wording on trash and came up with several different items that could be deemed trash and stuff to satisfy the courts and we’re just changing our ordinance,” says Schultz.
Specifically, the Town of Medaryville is looking to create a list of items that are not allowed to be strewn around local yards. That includes items such as lumber, shingles, and car parts.
The special session was designed to adopt the ordinance with some expediency. The town was interested in having the ordinance amendment completed at their regular session last week, but had not met with the town attorney to complete the document.
“The only reason we’re doing it is because the courts wanted a better definition of trash and that’s the reason we’re doing it,” says Schultz.
The amendment will be advertised and will be in effect once those requirements have been met.
