Some employees at the West Central School Corporation will be getting a raise. Superintendent Don Street says salary increases for non-certified classified employees were approved by the school board last week.
He says bus drivers, instructional assistants, and maintenance and cafeteria workers will be affected by the change. “Those increases vary depending on the position,” he says. “We’re looking at, for the bus drivers, two dollars a day. Then the other positions would vary from 35-cents to 25-cents per hour for past employees, depending upon the hours that they work, if they’re considered full-time or part time, and responsibility level.”
Street adds the raises will be retroactive. Their approval came on the same night the school board approved the 2017 budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan.
At the same time, though, the board approved a 5.5-percent increase in health insurance premiums through the Midwest Area School Employees’ Insurance Trust for non-certified staff. Street says the corporation will continue splitting the cost with its employees.
