Knox Community High School may have a new assistant principal in the near future.
Administration and staff at the high school formed a committee earlier this year to accept applications for the position after it was vacated by former Assistant Principal Dave Miller. He has since accepted a position teaching Social Studies at the Middle School.
Knox Schools Superintendent A.J. Gappa says the committee is ready to make a recommendation on a new hire to the school board.
“What they were trying to do is find what they think is the best person to fit the job of the assistant principal of the high schools to fulfill those duties,” says Gappa.
The next Knox School Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 7th, but Gappa says the board will likely choose not to vote on making a hire until a later date. A review of the candidates’ credentials and experience may need to be processed by board members.
Details are short when it comes to who the committee may be recommending to fill the role. Gappa did say, however, that applications were received from both inside and outside the school corporation.
The school board has not previously voted on any hiring recommendation made by the committee. Gappa chose not go into detail about why the switch was made.
“It’s based on recommendations from the principal who thought it was in the best interest of the school corporation,” says Gappa.
Miller’s new role teaching at the middle school level comes after stints as both the principal at Knox Middle School and as assistant principal at the High School.
According to Gappa, Miller is not on the teacher pay scale at this time.
