The Pulaski County Commissioners Monday voted to merge the county’s Microfilm Department into its IT Department. IT Director RB Walters told the commissioners the move would allow a part-time IT technician that he’s planning to hire to work in both areas. Then, once the current Microfilm Department employee retires, the IT technician would move to full-time, while continuing with both tasks, according to Walters’ plan.
Walters also reported Monday that the county will save about $800 to $900 next year, thanks to the installation of point-to-point access. “With the County Highway, with the CDC, with Recycling, and with EMS, right now we pay about $60 apiece for Internet at each one of those locations,” he explained.
Walters said the new system will connect all those county departments. “What this is going to allow us to do is actually do a WiFi connection between all of those locations and be able to actually allow us to have data traffic back to our servers, allow them to have Internet access, allow them to have all the capabilities that we have here at the courthouse and the justice center at those locations,” he said.
Walters expects the point-to-point access to be installed next week.
