Knox Residents Face Fines If Pets Are Left Outside Without Food and Shelter

The City of Knox is prepared to enforce an ordinance aimed at ensuring the humane treatment of animals during this extreme cold weather spell. Mayor Dennis Estok says pet owners found to be in violation of Ordinance 1087 will be cited.

Pets should be protected from the elements in a shelter that meets minimum veterinary standards for warmth and protection. They include having enough space to stand, sit and lie down without restrictions in a safe and sanitary manner. Animals should also have sufficient food and water at all times.

Estok says pets should be brought or kept indoors if at all possible until weather conditions improve.
