Winamac Issues Freeze Warning for All Municipal Utility Customers

The Town of Winamac has issued a system-wide “freeze warning” for customers in response to frozen water and sewer services.

The water department recommends all residential and commercial municipal utilities customers leave their water run at a cold water faucet inside the home or business until the town announces a stop to the freeze warning. Officials say the water should run in a small stream the size of a toothpick.

Additionally, if the water warms to above freezing, do not shut it off. Utility officials say the frost line actually lowers as thawing occurs, continuing to expose water and sewer lines. The Winamac Water and Sewer Department will announce when it is safe to turn water off.
