LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department Investigating Burglaries

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating at least one burglary in Fish Lake and cautions more may have occurred.

Deputies recovered a Toro self-propelled snow blower Saturday morning after responding to the 500 block of Poplar Drive for a report of two men pushing it down the street at 2 a.m. The owner of the snow blower has not been located, and investigators believe it may have been stolen from a vacation home whose owner may not yet be aware a burglary has occurred.

Then on Tuesday, Jan. 24 deputies responded to a reported burglary of a vacation home in the 100 block of Elm Drive. The burglar broke a window and took several items. Later that day stolen items, possibly including some taken from the Elm Drive residence, were recovered at another LaPorte County location.

Sheriff John Boyd notes communities like Fish Lake, where there are numerous vacation homes, provide good targets for thieves and burglars. He’s increased patrols in the area and asks all residents to report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with knowledge of the crimes is asked to call the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau at 219-326-7700.
