LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Information Following String of Burglaries

Several firearms and cash were reportedly stolen during a series of burglaries last week in northeast LaPorte County.

The first one occurred last Tuesday between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 4400 block of East County Road 800 North, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office. Officers believe the suspects forced their way into the home and took several firearms. Some of them were kept in a safe, which police say was later found near 500 East and 900 North.

Another burglary was reported on Thursday between 3:00 and 11:00 p.m. at a home in the 3900 block of East County Road 800 North. A handgun and cash were allegedly taken.

On Saturday, deputies responded to a third burglary report, this time at Jennie Rae’s Restaurant on U.S. 20 near Rolling Prairie. Nothing was believed to have been taken, but the cash register was reportedly found outside.

The Sheriff’s Department says technicians were able to recover physical evidence from all three incidents. Neighbors also told investigators they saw a red minivan and a black coupe, possibly a Hyundai, just before the burglaries allegedly happened.

Officers ask anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Office at 219-326-7700. They also remind residents to call police anytime they notice suspicious activity.
