Police are warning of a burglary scheme involving people pretending to be NIPSCO employees. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says that last Friday, an elderly homeowner in LaPorte had someone show up at his home saying he was from NIPSCO and needed to trim some trees away from wires on the property. As they walked through the home to the backyard, another man allegedly went inside and committed a burglary.

At the time, officers said a group of people had apparently vandalized the home and stole several items while the resident, a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran, was away visiting family.
LaPorte County Police are looking for multiple people who they believe vandalized and stole several items from the home of a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran. Officers say that over the past week, guns, prescription drugs, and a large amount of scrap metal have been taken from the property along 3rd Line Road in the Kingsbury Industrial Park. On top of that, several vehicles reportedly had their windows shattered and one vehicle was flipped over.
Two juveniles are facing multiple charges after a Knox City Police Detective connected them to a recent burglary.

A former Starke County resident who has been arrested at least 50 times was sentenced in Starke Circuit Court last week.
LaPorte County Police have arrested a Gary man, following a suspected burglary at a gas station. Shortly before midnight Tuesday night, officers were called to the Family Express station at the intersection of State Road 2 and County Road 500 West. Police say someone had gotten in and taken numerous cigarette cartons.

A rural LaPorte County fire station is missing some equipment following a burglary.
The incident occurred at Coolspring Township Station #2 – that’s located on Shebel Road near County Road 100 North. LaPorte County Sheriff’s investigators say the fire station is unmanned and in a remote location.
