Winamac Pool Committee Continues Fundraising

The Winamac Pool Committee is moving ahead with its fundraising efforts. A Hap’s Chicken Bash will be held this evening from 4:30 to 7:00 EST at the Church of the Heartland on State Road 14, with proceeds going to the pool rebuilding project.

Earlier advertisements erroneously referred to the event as a fundraiser for the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Hospital board member and Winamac Park Board President Courtney Poor issued a clarification and formal apology on behalf of the hospital to the Pool Committee, during last week’s park board meeting.

While the pool rebuilding project is partially being funded by the Town of Winamac and grant money, a significant portion of the money is coming from private donations and fundraisers. The Winamac Park Board has expressed confidence that the necessary funds can be raised to build the pool. A greater concern is whether the town will be able to afford the maintenance costs once it’s built.

The Pool Committee hopes to raise enough funds not only to cover construction, but also to start setting money aside for large-scale repair costs in the future. Day-to-day maintenance would be covered under the town’s recreation budget.
