Former Michigan City Police Officer Arrested for Rape, Following Investigation

Thomas Jackson

A former Michigan City Police officer has been arrested on four counts of rape. Thomas K. Jackson, 51, of Trail Creek was taken into custody at a convenience store Tuesday morning, following a month-long investigation by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.

Sheriff’s department officials say the investigation was requested by Michigan City Police Chief Mark Swistek, following a report of inappropriate sexual contact between Jackson and a woman with “diminished mental capabilities.” Jackson resigned from the Michigan City Police Department on March 14.

A warrant for his arrest was issued Monday by LaPorte Circuit Judge Thomas Alevizos, after officials from the sheriff’s department and prosecutor’s office presented a probable cause affidavit and four-count charging information.
