A Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputy was among the officers involved in Tuesday’s fatal police action shooting south of Francesville.
Deputy Brandon Eber of Pulaski County, Officer Roger Young of the Monon Police Department and Deputies Jodi Rohler and John Eads of Tippecanoe County all fired shots at 36-year-old Peter J. Doffin, Jr. of Lafayette.
He had led officers from several departments on a high-speed chase through multiple counties after reportedly snatching a juvenile female from a Warren County home around 4:30 a.m. The pursuit ended about two hours later on U.S. 421 about four miles south of Francesville in Pulaski County when Doffin’s SUV ran off the side of the highway.
He reportedly got out of the vehicle brandishing a knife and aggressively charged at the officers, who repeatedly told him to drop his weapon.
Doffin refused, and that’s when the shots were fired.
A forensic autopsy ordered by the Pulaski County Coroner determined Doffin died of multiple gunshot wounds. None of the officers involved in the incident were injured, and neither was the girl in his vehicle.
The Indiana State Police investigation into the shooting is continuing. Their report will be turned over to the Pulaski County Prosecutor’s Office for review once it is complete.
