A drunk driving accident claimed the life of a La Porte resident late Thursday afternoon.
La Porte County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a single vehicle crash in the 5100 W. block of County Road 450 North shortly after 5 p.m. CT. Investigating deputies say a silver 2008 Cadillac was traveling west on County Road 450 North when the vehicle began to fishtail and left the south side of the roadway. The vehicle violently collided with a tree.
Investigators believe that the force of the impact caused the seatbelt to break thus ejecting the driver, 48-year-old Corey Lombard, of La Porte, from the vehicle. The driver was declared deceased at the scene.
La Porte County Police believe speed and alcohol are factors in the crash. The La Porte County Coroner determined that Lombard had a blood alcohol level of .09% which is slightly over the legal limit to operate a vehicle. The results of additional toxicology tests are pending.
