The Railroad Township Volunteer Fire Department has now been around for roughly two-and-a half months. Fire Chief Andy Tilleraas says the process of getting the department up and running has been going well.
He says there are currently 12 firefighters. His eventual goal is to have at least 21. Tilleraas says those interested in volunteering with the Railroad Township Volunteer Fire Department are required to live in the coverage area. The Railroad Township Volunteer Fire Department was established back in January, after the township trustee and the San Pierre Volunteer Fire Department were unable to agree on a contract renewal.
