Error in Meeting Minutes Complicates Purchase of Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department Vehicles

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department’s two new vehicles are ready, but additional action was required by the county council this week before the department could take possession of them. Sheriff Jeff Richwine said the council voted back in January to let him take out a loan to buy the vehicles and use the department’s commissary funds to make the loan payments.

But while the approval can clearly be heard in the meeting audio and was mentioned in the newspaper, there was no record of it in the official meeting minutes. That created a problem when the bank asked to see the council’s approval in writing.

Rather than amend the January meeting minutes, council members decided Monday to simply redo the motion authorizing Richwine to make the purchase. Once it was approved, Auditor Laura Wheeler double checked the details with council members, to make sure the motion is properly recorded this time.

Richwine said he’ll need a copy of this month’s minutes to take to the bank.
