A road at the south end of the Knox City Limits has a new name. Last summer the city used Community Crossings grant money to connect 150 South between Roosevelt Road and South Heaton Street. During a dedication ceremony yesterday, Mayor Dennis Estok told the crowd of veterans, family members and city officials the former county road needed a new name.
He says Veterans Parkway kept coming up as a suggestion, and finally his wife told him it’s the only choice. Estok adds the name is in honor of all of the veterans in Knox and around the country who have served.
Veterans Parkway runs just south of the Knox VFW.
“I think it’s very fitting and appropriate for this road to be Veterans Parkway. It’s the first road coming in to Knox and the last one going out,” Estok said before reading a proclamation to make it official.
Knox Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston unveiled the new Veterans Parkway signs to applause from the crowd.
