A rural LaPorte County man is dead, after reportedly crashing a vehicle into a tree early Monday morning. Officers with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office believe 34-year-old Bryan Meyer was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on Fail Road about a mile north of LaPorte around 3:00 a.m., when it left the east side of the roadway and struck a tree.
Emergency responders say Meyer was unresponsive when they arrived. He was taken to LaPorte Hospital in critical condition, and was pronounced dead at 7:11 a.m., due to blunt force trauma.
Investigators have ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. They note it was raining and the road was wet at the time of the crash.
