The Starke County Youth Club needs the public’s help to continue fulfilling their mission. Executive Director Irene Szakonyi says they meet a critical need in the community.
“The Starke County Youth Club is a youth development agency supporting children and families with after school, summer and recreational programs. We do that all across the county for kids in K through 12. We’re the only after-school provider in our county, and so we’re meeting some really critical needs.”
Programs are offered at Knox, North Judson-San Pierre and Oregon-Davis schools, with more than 500 youngsters served annually.
Szakonyi says the Starke County Youth Club strives to help youngsters succeed in both school and in life and become lifelong learners.
“The Club day is chock full of opportunities for them to grow as individuals, to do better at school. It is much more than our foundation, which is a safe place for kids to be. It is about helping them explore the world, helping them explore their talents, express themselves, and learn so much that they are just full and ready to move on.”
Szakonyi adds the Starke County Youth Club makes learning fun. She says students learn by doing in cooking classes, with hands-on mathematics curriculum and other outside-the-box approaches to curriculum.
The Starke County Youth Club will be taking over the WKVI airwaves Friday, May 5, 2017 for their annual radiothon. Learn more about them by visiting their website, www.thescyc.org.
