Courthouse Elevator Discussion on Starke Commissioners Agenda

The Starke County Commissioners will consider additional updates to the courthouse when they meet this evening. Their agenda includes discussion of an ADA-compliant elevator, which would be paid for with a grant from the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission.

Also on tonight’s agenda is a discussion of appropriations of the County Economic Development Income Tax Fund, or CEDIT. Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver would like to use money to make continued improvements to the Knox Industrial Park and other areas, but he needs the blessing of the commissioners to ask the county council for an appropriation.

Sheriff Bill Dulin will talk to the commissioners about a deferred compensation plan, county maintenance director Jim Coad will discuss contract fire protection and a representative of the Starke County Plan commission will speak to the commissioners about ownership of property.

EMS Director Keith Emigh and Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler will present their monthly reports to the commissioners tonight as well, and Ritzler will give the county’s ADA report.

Tonight’s Starke County Commissioners meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the annex building.
