Renting Hamlet’s park facilities will soon cost you a bit more. The park board voted Wednesday to charge $25 to rent a pavilion, along with restroom access. Five dollars will be refunded when the restroom key is returned to the town hall. Up until now, Hamlet only charged a $10 refundable deposit for pavilion rental.
Board member Brian Earnest was in favor of the change, noting there is some labor involved for town employees. “I’m just thinking we should have something because it’s nice enough now,” he said. “You’ve got restrooms there. You’ve got to go clean it afterwards; you’ve got to check it out.” Town officials said the new park rental fees are comparable to those in other local communities of a similar size.
In other business Wednesday, the Hamlet Park Board once again decided to donate $150 to the City of Knox fireworks. Members noted that many Hamlet residents go to watch the annual fireworks display. It will take place Saturday, July 1 in Wythogan Park.
