The Knox City Council will consider an illegal dumping ordinance on first reading tonight. Mayor Dennis Estok previously told council members that someone has been dumping 20- to 30-pound bags of animal waste in park trash cans. Excessive dumping has also led to the removal of the city’s drop-off recycling bins. Under the proposed ordinance, violators would be fined $150 for the first offense and $500 for all subsequent violations.
Also during tonight’s meeting, council members will discuss an ordinance changing the way the city handles road funding. The current Motor Vehicle Highway Fund would be joined by an Allocated Motor Vehicle Highway Fund, which would only be used for “construction, reconstruction, and maintenance of highways.” The ordinance is designed to reflect changes to Indiana Code.
Tonight’s Knox City Council meeting starts at 7:00 at City Hall.
