Pulaski County Man Faces Felony Aggravated Battery Charge in LaPorte County

A Pulaski County man and a Michigan City woman face felony battery charges in LaPorte County after an apparent injury accident aroused the suspicions of a sheriff’s patrolman.

He responded to a report of a crash in the 3100 north block of CR 950 West at the dead-end for I-94 just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, according to the incident report.

The vehicle appeared to have struck a guardrail. The man lying next to the car was in and out of consciousness with severe head injuries. He was later identified as 36-year-old Maurice Edmond of Michigan City. He was airlifted to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, and has since been released.

The officer didn’t believe Edmond’s injuries matched up with evidence at the crash site, and asked for assistance from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.

They spoke to 21-year-old Dusty Buren of Michigan City, whose statements reportedly implicated 25-year-old Dallas Preston of Pulaski County. Officers obtained warrants for both and arrested them. Preston is charged with Level 3 felony aggravated battery, and Buren is charged with Level 5 aggravated battery.
