Pulaski County Sheriff’s Memorial Remembers Fa

Members of the law enforcement community paused Monday to remember the three members of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Pulaski County Sheriff Jeff Richwine thanked them for their service.

“Today we remember and honor three men who selflessly gave their life to protect the people of Pulaski County. May they never be forgotten, may we always remember the debt we owe them, and may we always have hope,” he said.

Sheriff Charles Henry Oglesby was fatally shot by a gang of bank robbers who hitched a ride on a train on Oct. 5, 1907. It was another 60 year years before Sheriff Milo “Mike” Lewis was killed on Oct. 11, 1967 by an inmate whose girlfriend had smuggled a gun to him in the jail.

The third officer from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department killed in the line of duty was Deputy Shad Bassett. He was responding to a call when his patrol car struck a tree on State Road 39 north of State Road 14 on Oct. 7, 2005.
