Oregon-Davis School Board Finalizes Plans for Jump Start Program, Gets Ready for School Year

Oregon-Davis students have a chance to get a Jump Start on the school year, beginning next week. The two-week summer school program let students in grades one through eight brush up on their skills before school officially starts August 10. A one-week kindergarten Jump Start will also be offered, starting July 31.

The list of Jump Start teachers was approved Monday by the Oregon-Davis School Board, according to Superintendent Don Harman. Meanwhile, the school board is also making sure all the necessary staff is in place for the 2017-2018 school year. “We did approve a preschool aide, Kayla Skaggs,” Harman says. “We did hire a new English teacher, Francisca Clark, and then also a science teacher, Kenley Newbauer. So we’re excited about those three new hires.”

Harman says several start-of-school events are planned in the coming weeks. Sports physicals will be offered next Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. “We will have a mobile bus for Oregon-Davis students to get sports physicals at a reduced rate,” Harman says. “So that’s available for our athletes.”

He adds an open house is scheduled for Wednesday, August 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. “We’ll be grilling hot dogs,” Harman says, “and we’ll have hot dogs and potato chips and drinks for all of our patrons who want to come that night.”

School registration will take place Tuesday, August 1 and Thursday, August 3.
