A Union Mills man has died, following an off-road vehicle crash in LaPorte County. Indiana Conservation Officers say it happened shortly after midnight Sunday morning, in a field near 1100 West and 1500 South.

Investigators believe that three people were riding in the 2013 Polaris Ranger, when the driver made a sharp turn at a high rate of speed. Police say that caused the vehicle to flip onto its side, landing on top of David Wakefield Williams Jr., 19, of Union Mills.

Witnesses said that Williams was unresponsive, and CPR was performed. He was taken to Porter Regional Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators say the driver of the off-road vehicle, Jacob Clindaniel, 20, of Hanna, was not under the influence of alcohol. But police say that both passengers may have been drinking before the crash. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts or helmets, according to officers.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, LaPorte County EMS, and Cass Clinton Volunteer Fire Department assisted Indiana Conservation Officers.
