Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler updated the county commissioners this week on work done on deficient bridges in the county.
Only four deficient bridges remain. He said plans are complete for bridge #58 on County Road 800 South over Bogus Run, bridge #36 on County Road 25 North over Eagle Creek and bridge #154 on County Road 100 East over the Robbins Ditch. Those projects will be bid in September and finished next year.
The design contract for Bridge #7 on County Road 1200 East over the Yellow River was awarded to Jones, Petrie and Rafinski and that work will be done in 2018.
He reported that the county saved money on the completion of three bridge projects this year.
“We saved a little bit of money. All the bridges came under budget because we paved all of the projects together. The first two bridges were already done but we waited to pave the bridges until the third bridge was done. That saved some money. We’re under about $4,000 on each bridge.”
He said new bridge #47 on 625 South, west of 900 East was just opened to traffic this week.
