Students and teachers at Knox Community Schools will not be in the classrooms on Friday, September 1st but thanks to technology, class will still be in session. The school corporation will be testing their eLearning system that will allow teachers to post assignments and students to access them in the case of inclement weather.
Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Peggy Shidaker said in the event of a cancellation the system will allow instruction to continue without disruption.
Shidaker said, “All student assignments will be posted in Canvas and every student has a login for Canvas, the learning management system. The student wakes up, they find out that school has been canceled. By nine o’clock their teacher will have posted to Canvas what the learning activities and assignments are for that day, for that student in that particular class.”
The point of implementing this program is to reduce the amount of contingency days. However, should cancellations exceed two days, the third day will have no eLearning sessions and a contingency day will be added to the end of the school year. September 1st will serve as a test of the efficiency of Canvas and the eLearning system. Canvas can be accessed on a computer, tablet or smart phone. Parents and students are invited to give feedback about how the test day goes by contacting the school.
