Pulaski Council Tables Funding Request, After Members Unsure if They Had Already Approved It

Confusion remains over funding for a new van for Pulaski County Human Services. On Monday, the county council tabled an additional appropriation request of $6,894, after council members were not sure if they had already approved it. That, along with a $200 private donation, would cover the local share of the purchase price, while 80 percent would be covered by grant funds.

The issue was discussed for a couple months this past spring. It appeared to be put to rest during the county council’s June meeting, when members voted to contribute the requested money out of the County Economic Development Income Tax Fund. However, the request was back on this week’s agenda, as an additional appropriation that was advertised but still needed final approval.

Further complicating matters was the fact that Human Services had also asked the council to reverse a previous funding cut. Confusion about which of those requests have actually been approved led council members to hold off on taking any further action this week.

But beyond that, council member Alex Haschel said if an organization comes to the council requesting money, she’d like to see their budget first.
