Pulaski County Council to Consider Additional Appropriations for Circuit, Superior Courts

Budget shortfalls in Pulaski County’s court system will be addressed during tonight’s county council meeting.

Judge Michael Shurn told council members last month that an increase in criminal charges has led to larger-than-expected public defender costs. Tonight, council members will decide whether to finalize additional appropriations for Pauper Counsel: $30,000 for Circuit Court and $15,000 for Superior Court.

Funding arrangements for Pulaski County Human Services’ new van are also expected to be finalized tonight. Budget transfer requests from Prosecutor Dan Murphy and Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff will also be considered.

Tonight’s Pulaski County Council meeting starts at 7:00 EDT at the Pulaski County Courthouse, following a joint session with the county commissioners at 6:00.
