Winamac Park Board to Discuss Veterans Memorial Park, Pool Grant

Winamac artist Greg Hildebrandt drew this rendering of the proposed bench and sign placement for the park board.

The Winamac Park Board will consider upgrades to Veterans Memorial Park tonight. Board members have been discussing the addition of a decorative archway, and the VFW and American Legion have each offered to donate a bench. On top of that, the American Legion has offered to place its cannon in the park, should it decide to sell its current building.

A few months ago, board members asked the public to weigh in on the improvements. The last time the park was discussed, public opinion was mixed about whether to add all the proposed features or leave the park as it is.

The park board members plan to continue that discussion when they meet tonight at 6:00 EDT at the Winamac Municipal Utility Complex. The park board is also expected to get an update on the grant application for the Winamac’s swimming pool rebuilding project.

Representatives from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources were scheduled to visit the site last month. Winamac has applied for up to $200,000 in matching money from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. Grant recipients are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
