Architects Moving Ahead with Plans for New Pulaski County Courthouse Elevator

Plans to replace the elevator at the Pulaski County Courthouse are moving ahead according to schedule. During last week’s county commissioners meeting, Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston said he got an update from Keystone Architecture. “We’ll have a materials list and drawings and stuff for bid-out at the end of this month,” Johnston said. “So at the end of September, we’ll have all the stuff we need for the bidding process.”

Plans call for construction to begin in November and last for about six months. During that time, the courthouse will once again be without an elevator. The current elevator was out of service for several weeks earlier this year while temporary repairs were made.

However, the elevator is considered too small to easily fit people using wheelchairs. It needs to be replaced entirely, to bring the courthouse into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
