Knox City Council Adopts ADA Procedures Ordinance and Appoints a Coordinator
Knox City Council members appointed Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston to the position of ADA Coordinator when they met Tuesday night. Members also approved an ordinance pertaining to ADA procedures.
Houston informed the council of the seven suggested steps that public entities must take, related to the American’s with Disabilities Act.

Winamac Park Board to Continue Researching Toddler Playground Equipment, in Spite of High Costs
Getting new equipment for the Winamac Town Park’s toddler playground may be more of a challenge than originally thought. The town’s Kiwanis Club had hoped to donate about $4,000 for that purpose. Pulaski County Courthouse Elevator Construction Bids Opened, Legal Settlement Considered
The Pulaski County Courthouse elevator is a step closer to getting replaced. Bids from three construction companies were opened during last week’s county commissioners meeting. They ranged from $489,000 to over $594,000. The bids will now be reviewed by Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston, County Attorney Kevin Tankersley, and representatives from Keystone Architecture, before the commissioners make a decision.
Parking Lot Upgrades Planned for Oregon Township Voting Site
The Starke County Election Board members are moving the voting site for Oregon Township Precinct 2 voters from the Koontz Lake Fire Department to the Koontz Lake Association Building. In order for that to happen, a few upgrades need to be done.
Pulaski County Courthouse Elevator Construction Pushed Back to March
The replacement of the elevator at the Pulaski County Courthouse has been delayed slightly. “Because we got no bids on the elevator project, we had to push the date back for construction,” Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston told the county council and commissioners Monday. “With pushing it back to March, we were able to get three interested parties.”
Winamac’s Love Your Community Project Almost Finished for the Season
Work on the downtown restroom facility near the Winamac Parkway is almost done for the season.
The Town of Winamac received $10,000 through the Pulaski County Community Foundation ‘Love Your Community Place-making Grant.’ They decided to spend the money constructing public bathrooms in the area, with hopes of bringing more community events to the area in the future. Continue reading
Winamac-based Business Welcomes New CEO
BraunAbility CEO Nick Gutwein has announced his retirement and revealed that his successor will be Staci Kroon, the former Executive Vice President of Eaton Business Systems.
Gutwein, who has led BraunAbility since 2008, recently alerted the company’s Board of Directors of his plans to retire. The Board selected Staci Kroon to fill his position. According to a BraunAbility media advisory released earlier this week, Kroon will officially assume the role of President and CEO of the Winamac-based business on Nov. 27th. Courthouse Elevator Plans Presented to Pulaski County Commissioners
Plans for a new elevator at the Pulaski County Courthouse were presented to the county commissioners this week. Cameron Chambers with Keystone Architecture explained that it will be in the same general location as the current one, but it will be a little bigger.”On the first floor, you’ll enter it coming in off that main hallway, with one door, and when you go upstairs, you’ll have the same door right above it,” he explained. “We’ll actually end up creating a storage closet there, so when you come up the stairs from the ground to the main floor, you’ll now be forced to go left because right will be enclosed by this elevator.”
Similarly, the new elevator will block the hallway on the top floor of the courthouse. To provide access to rooms on either side, the elevator will have two doors on that level. Continue reading

Starke County Park Board Approves Grant Applications for Yellow River Access Site Project
The Starke County Park Board is moving ahead with a couple grant applications for a Yellow River access site at Range Road. The project involves the construction of a gravel lane and parking area, as well as an EZ dock kayak launch, for a cost of just over $53,000.

Conditions at the Pulaski County Courthouse have led to some challenges for Circuit Court Judge Michael Shurn. A complaint about the courthouse has recently been filed with the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Among other items, it calls for the county to repair a piece of falling ceiling in the courtroom.
