Knox Community Center Building Corporation Simplifies Payment Process for Renovation Bills

As upgrades to the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center get underway, the Knox Community Center Building Corporation has taken steps to simplify the process of paying the bills for the work. The building corporation recently extended the community center’s loan by five years, to pay for a new roof and upgrades to the heating and cooling system, among other improvements.

Members met again Tuesday to appoint Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston as their lessor representative. He explained that will allow him to approve the bill payments on their behalf. “The trust officer from [First National Bank of Monterey] pointed out that we need either a lessor representative or at least two of you guys that have to meet every time we make a claim on anything that’s done,” Houston said. “So I’ll fill out a certificate of completion upon each phase, like the roof or the HVAC system or whatever, and then send that in with the claim from the contractor.” Houston previously explained that the bank itself pays the claims, once they are approved by the city.

He reminded the building corporation Tuesday that $25,000 has already been paid to bond counsel Ice Miller, while over $28,000 has gone to accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates. However, that money came out of a separate account, specifically for bond issuance expenses.
