Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver told the Starke County Council this week that the Sysco property in Hamlet is up for sale.
He said 320 acres of the Hamlet property is listed with a Chicago broker that has a nationwide relationship with the company. Councilman Dave Pearman said the county invested grant dollars and tax money in order to accommodate the infrastructure to welcome Sysco into the county and the representatives should not sell that land for more than what they paid for it. Weaver said he’s been talking to the company’s representatives about that and while the county is happy to help, the company will not take advantage of Starke County citizens and government.
Weaver also gave an update on the sale of the Stelrema building to Gary Poppins.
“The sprinkler system has been approved. They got it repaired. They did final environmental work. They’ve taken some of their potential staff to look at it. We’re just waiting for a date for them to close and then we can make the announcement,” said Weaver.
