Pulaski Commissioners Approve Recycling and Transfer Station Building Addition, Trailer Purchase

Upgrades continue at the Pulaski County Recycling and Transfer Station.

Last week, the county commissioners authorized Manager Brad Bonnell to use Solid Waste District funds to reconfigure the way cardboard is handled. “I would like to add onto the lean-to of the existing building where they drop off recyclables at Winamac,” he explained. “It would be for handling cardboard. Currently, we have tipper dumpsters sitting out front. When it rains, the cardboard gets wet. And on Saturdays when you’ve got to move them and the traffic’s heavy, there’s a lot of people in the road and they’re in and out of the building.”

Bonnell said the change would improve safety at the facility. He added that the 10-by-20-foot structure would be built by his staff. Bonnell expects that material costs will be less than $4,000.

Also during last week’s meeting, the commissioners voted to allow Bonnell to buy a 53-foot van trailer from JMR Trucking, also with Solid Waste District money. Bonnell noted that the $3,000 cost was about half the price of other trailers in similar condition. Commissioner Mike McClure abstained from the vote.
