A sergeant with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is being recognized for saving the life of an overdose victim in Clinton County last month.

On September 15, Sergeant Frederick Rogers was driving on State Road 39, on his way back from a training event hosted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis. Near State Road 26, Rogers noticed a vehicle that had crashed into a guardrail. The occupant was unresponsive, and two good Samaritans were trying to help him out.

Rogers had his defibrillator ready to help him. He also noticed that the man appeared to be suffering from an overdose. Rogers gave him two doses of Narcan, and he became responsive before paramedics arrived.

On Tuesday, Rogers was commended for his actions by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The award states that Rogers’ recognition of the symptoms and quick response with Narcan in a situation when Narcan would not normally be available showed his dedication to the people of Indiana.
